ORTHODONTICS FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS
If teeth are overlapping or crowding, proper brushing and flossing of the teeth is much more difficult. This can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. Straight teeth are less likely to be affected by caries and will have a longer healthy life. Also, a wrong relationship of the upper jaw to the lower jaw can lead to an unequal load distribution on the facial and jaw muscles, the jaw bone, the jaw joints and the entire peridontal apparatus. This in turn may result in cracking, friction or pain in the jaw joint, and in the worst case lead to osteoarthritis of the temporomandibular joint. Also, the teeth may be become loose due to constant overload or uneven load distribution. Proper distribution of the load on the jaws may reduce the risk of joint and muscle pain.
Even head and neck pain, speech defects and respiratory problems caused by improper breathing technique (mouth breathing) may be the result of malaligned teeth.
Of course, in addition to all the aspects mentioned above, cosmetics and an aesthetically pleasing appearance also play an important role. Often, orthodontic treatment will significantly improve a person's facial profile - and STRAIGHT TEETH AND A BEAUTIFUL SMILE SIMPLY LOOK AND FEEL GOOD.
This means a psychological boost and improved self-confidence, positively affecting overall well-being.
There are removable braces and fixed braces:
In general, a full orthodontic treatment with both removable and fixed braces takes about 3 years. If only fixed braces are required, they usually have to stay in the mouth for a maximum of 18 months, followed by the so-called retention phase with removable braces (retainers), in order to keep the teeth in the new position. These retainers are worn only at night during the retention phase.
